About Cambridgeshire Youth Ballet & Contemporary Company
For the Dancer
The CYBC is an established youth ballet & contemporary company based in Cambridgeshire offering a unique training experience for young people who love to dance.
Cast members use the experience to enhance their existing dance training and gain high quality performance skills by working towards performing abridged versions of famous stories. Introducing and expanding their knowledge of dance with the inclusion of Contemporary and Lyrical as well as Ballet.
All work is inspired by young and up and coming choreographers. Works are designed and choreographed specifically for this unique company. CYBC is managed through Stageworks Studios in St. Neots, where we have the luxury of 4 dance studios for our rehearsal space. Weekly company members will get both Ballet and Contemporary technical lessons led by Saskia Lockey, who’s trained at the Royal Ballet School and pursued a career in West End theatre, with assistant choreographer Helen Yewbrey who trained in Ballet and Contemporary dance at Laban, alongside further I.S.T.D teaching qualifications. Through the classes and the choreography; members will be refining their technique, their adaptability and their performance skills. Run on a Sunday morning it is a perfect enhancement to a dancer’s existing training at their own school and offers that extra opportunity to perform and learn what it is like to be part of a dance Company.

For the Spectator
Be inspired by the remarkable achievements of young dancers in a performance of exceptional quality—one that few youth companies can rival in its ambition and originality. This production seamlessly blends the elegance of classical ballet with the boldness of contemporary dance, offering something truly distinctive for a wide range of audiences.
Whether you are drawn to the tradition of ballet or the expressive edge of neo-classical and contemporary styles, this performance invites you to experience both worlds in harmony. It seeks to bridge the gap between these forms, welcoming those who may not usually explore ballet and offering a fresh, accessible perspective.
Our new production of Swan Lake embodies this vision, merging classical foundations with modern innovation. The result is a compelling dialogue between past and present—a performance that unites tradition and experimentation.
The company takes pride in its inventive choreography, creating a magical experience that reimagines a timeless work. By fusing the old with the new, this production offers a captivating journey that resonates with today’s audiences while honouring the legacy of the original.
Tickets will be advertised as soon as they are available via the SWEvents box office.
For the Dance Teacher and Parent
This programme has been carefully designed to complement, not compete with, a student’s existing training and academic commitments. Rehearsals are structured to fit current classes, examinations, and school life, ensuring that participation enhances rather than disrupts a dancer’s development. For students, it offers an enriching extension to their training—one that nurtures artistry, builds confidence, and deepens their passion for dance.
Dancers also gain the invaluable experience of connecting with like-minded peers, broadening their horizons while proudly representing their home dance schools in a positive and professional environment. We are deeply appreciative of the continued support from teachers and schools who entrust us with their students each week, and we remain committed to upholding the highest standards of training and performance.
Many of our dancers have gone on to further their training at leading institutions, a testament to the quality and care invested in their development. Just as importantly, participants leave each season with a renewed sense of inspiration, confidence, and enthusiasm—often eager to return and relive the experience.
For many, the company becomes a true community. It is a space where dancers grow together, support one another, and form lasting friendships. Younger members are inspired by their older peers, while senior dancers develop leadership skills through mentoring and collaboration. This shared journey fosters not only strong performances, but also valuable life skills that extend far beyond the studio.
We are committed to providing a safe, supportive, and professional training environment. All practices align with recognised safeguarding policies and regulations, and our experienced teaching team is selected for both their expertise and their outstanding reputations. Each member of staff is dedicated to ensuring every dancer feels supported, challenged, and valued throughout their journey with us.
My daughter loved her time with you all, although initially she found it very difficult as it was so different to the ballet she'd been used to but the support of yourselves and the other students really helped her.
Both myself and her ballet school teacher have noticed a difference in her dancing and I feel it's done wonders for her confidence and enjoyment of ballet.

Minke
Jess hugely enjoyed CYB in the two years she did it, and it without doubt made a difference to her ballet training - the improvements were visible even to my untrained eye. She loved every session, the shows, the team and the cast, and has come away with some incredible memories.
